Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to swim.
Learning to swim is a lifesaving skill, yet financial hardship, cultural barriers, additional support needs (ASN) and limited access to suitable lessons mean too many children miss out.
Our Learn to Swim Bursaries and School Swimming Top-Up Programmes remove these barriers, giving children access to supportive, inclusive lessons tailored to their individual needs.
Working in partnership with Swim Easy, Swim IT, Making Waves and Xcite, we help children develop water confidence, essential swimming and self-rescue skills, while opening doors to improved wellbeing, independence and lifelong enjoyment of the water.
Who Can Apply?
Our bursaries support children and families experiencing one or more of the following:
- Financial hardship or receipt of Universal Credit.
- Living in an area of high deprivation (SIMD).
- Additional support needs (ASN) creating barriers to swimming.
- Young carer responsibilities.
- Significant family challenges, including bereavement or separation.
- Cultural, social or practical barriers to accessing lessons.
Every application is considered individually. We ask families to commit to regular attendance and reinforce water safety and active supervision at home.
