LEARNING TO SWIM CAN REDUCE A CHILD'S CHANCE OF DROWNING UP TO 88% - WE WANT TO GIVE EVERY CHILD THE CHANCE TO NOT ONLY SURIVE, BUT TO THRIVE.
PROGRAMS & PROJECTS.
Approximately 450 children lose their life to drowning each year in South Africa. Prevention is the only way to reduce these tragic statistics, and through education, The Darcey Sunshine Foundation is doing just that.

Learning basic swim skills and water safety education has been proven to reduce the risk of drowning by up to 88%, and yet the majority of children in South Africa's most vulnerable communities could not dream of affording this opportunity. For this reason, we are removing all financial barriers, allowing EVERY CHILD, the chance to not only survive, but to thrive!
Our survival swimming project started in January 2021, and has been continually evaluated to ensure the highest standard of delivery. R2000 provides a child with a workbook, swim pack, sunshine bar at each lesson, qualified swim instructor, warm pool and transport to and from lessons, twice a week for 13 weeks. Why not sponsor a child's journey to water safety today?
Sunshine Nutrition Bars
Nutrition is a vital part of every child's development. For this reason, we ensure every child leaves their survival swim lesson with a healthy, nutritious snack, in the form of a Sunshine Bar. Made with love by the local community from donated ingredient, each bar is packed with a nutritional punch. Why not get involved and make us a batch or donate some ingredients? A donation of R200 could help us provide 30 sunshine bars!
Sunny's Big Splash
What better way to engage children in the topic of water safety, than by story telling? That's why we developed our very own story with loveable characters, to teach children the ABCs of water safety education.
Sunshine Swim Pack
We want to ensure every child starts their water safety journey on an even footing. For this reason, we provide every child with a Sunshine Swim Pack, with costume, cap and towel. For R400 you could provide a child with the means to learn basic swim skills.
Beach and Sea Safety
A particular important topic in the Western Cape, with our long, rolling beaches, we finish each year with a day at the beach. Through partnership with local life saving organisations we work to make sure every child leaves the beach with a basic understanding of how to keep themselves, and their friends safe.
Caregiver education
We realise there is no point in teaching a child to never go near the water without an adult, if that adult does not understand the importance of active supervision. Our Caregiver education days not only teach parents and caregivers the basics of water safety, but also CPR, so all parents are equip with the knowledge should the worst occur.
