OUR
DARCEY SUNSHINE

HER SUNSHINE
BECAME HER LEGACY .

IMG_9600.jpeg

On the 14th February 2020, a tragic swimming pool accident claimed the life of Darcey Elizabeth Sunshine Doig, just 2 months before her 4th birthday.  A keen, competent little swimmer, an accident with other children led to a brief moment of distraction. A brief moment is all it takes for lives to irreversibly change.

Darcey's short life inspired those who loved her to "be more Darcey", live each day bravely, and spread a little sunshine.

In the wake of her loss, Darcey's devastated parent's knew their daughter's middle name must become her legacy, creating a safer future and preventing others from suffering the same, devastating fate.

In November 2020, The Darcey Sunshine Foundation was registered, and January 2021 saw the first Sunshine Kids enter the pool with Jo Jo swimming academy in Somerset West.

Each year, new swim schools have signed up to help us spread the sunshine, reaching children from vulnerable communities with this life saving education.

By dismantling the financial and cultural barriers to acquiring life preserving education, the Darcey Sunshine Foundation aims to prevent the countless tragic instances of drowning each year, continuing to spread Darcey's sunshine for many years to come.
